Long John Silver is a fictional pirate and one of the main characters in Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.
History
Bart was supposed to give a book report on Treasure Island as a class assignment, but he didn't read the book. When Mrs. Krabappel called on Bart to give his report, he tried to fake his way through it. However, Mrs. Krabappel caught Bart out when she asked him to name the pirate in the book and Bart answered, "Bluebeard". As punishment, Mrs. Krabappel gave Bart lines, making him write "I will not fake my way through life" on the chalkboard.
