Naima is the owner of the restaurant SoulHouse.
History
When Carl was at Barney's Bowlarama, he met Naima who was there for her friend's kid's birthday party. Carl became smitten with Naima and flirted with her. He then showed Naima how to bowl and have fun doing so, after he bought her a pair of Lane Janes so she wouldn't have to wear shoes other people had worn. After they finished, Naima and Carl agreed to meet again on Friday at Naima's restaurant, SoulHouse.
Before the date, Carl started having a crisis over who he was and ended up getting a complete makeover to try and get Naima to like him more. During the meal, Naima realized that Carl was having an identity crisis and told him that it wouldn't work out between them as a result. Dejected, Carl left the restaurant.
When Carl went on Finding Your Roots, the show was broadcast in SoulHouse where Naima saw it. Carl mentioned the restaurant, which made Naima happy. When Carl found out that he was descended from cowboys and his father Wyatt was a bull rider, Carl invited Naima to watch him ride a bull. Naima arrived to try and talk Carl out of it but was too late as Carl ended up riding the bull for three seconds, which impressed Naima. After this, Naima gave Carl blood whilst in the back of an ambulance due to his injuries and Carl told her about the history of black cowboys.[1]
Carl mentioned that at one point, Naima had dated Kool from Kool & the Gang. Naima was also going to take Carl to see the reunited band when he got back from scattering Larry's ashes.[2]
