Long John Silver was on the cover of Treasure Island when Bart was doing a report on the book. Bart did not read the book, instead winging his speech by saying the book was about "Pirates with green birds on their shoulders and shiny gold teeth". Mrs. Krabappel easily saw through this slapdash report and asked Bart the name of the pirate. Bart incorrectly guessed "Bluebeard".
