David Mamet is a writer for the TV show Thicker than Waters.

History[edit]

He was mentioned by Homer when he talks to Lisa about plays. He says "You can put a lot of swears in it, that's what David Mamet does".[1] When Moe says "This is the first time I've watered down my liquor" and tells a series of lies one of the things he said was "A snappy David Mamet play"[2]

Mamet appeared in Thicker than Waters: The E! True Hollywood Story, a documentary that took a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show. The voiceover narrator said that actor Digby Sheridan, who played Patrick Waters, "had enormous problems with the show." Sheridan was shown reading a script that Mamet had written and frowning as he read. Sheridan then called the script "crap" and erupted into a profanity-laced tirade directed at Mamet, who happened to be standing nearby.

After Sheridan was finished with his rant, Mamet stood still for a moment, deep in thought. Mamet then began work on a new script, for the play Glengarry Glen Ross, and included profanity in the dialogue, evidently inspired by having been cursed out by Sheridan.[3]
