A butterfly is a small insect.

History

Maggie Simpson sees a butterfly fly past her window. She chases it across the roof of the house, catches it and falls off the roof. The butterfly later flies away.

When talking about his afterlife believes, Bart says he wants to come back as a butterfly, because "nobody ever suspects the butterfly". Bart then imagines the school burnt down, with Skinner being arrested for it, while a Bart butterfly is seen with a gas can.

Upon arrival on a tropical island as a missionary, a butterfly burrows into Homer's arm. The butterfly can then be seen under Homer's skin, heading up to his brain.

While sleeping, Homer swallows a caterpillar which exits his mouth as a butterfly.
