The Hummingbug is a character in The Phantom Tollhouse.
History
When Milo and the Guide Dog were at the Word Bizarre, they met the Hummingbug. He told Milo that he was "the bug some annoying people stick up their-" before he was interrupted by Officer Small Claims, who arrested him, Milo, and the Guide Dog. The three of them were thrown in jail. Milo escaped and went to meet with King Zzzz, who tasked him with finding the princesses Search and Rescue. He told Milo to take the Guide Dog and Hummingbug with him. Their first stop was the house where the world's tallest midget, shortest giant, fattest thin man, and thinnest fat man lived, who all turned out to be different people, breaking Milo's expectations. They continued on the journey, meeting Word Birds, Dr. Dischord, a faceless demon, a conductor, Lindsey Naegle in the Soundchecker's Tower, the Dodocahedron, a floating Martin Prince, and Ned Flanders. Finally, they arrived at Numeralville.
After Milo was beaten unconscious by the demons surrounding the Palace in the Smog, where the princesses were locked away, the Guide Dog and Hummingbug dragged him back to his house and put him in bed.
