Description
Angry Dad's appearance and mannerisms are based on Homer Simpson, Bart's legal-ese claim to the contrary notwithstanding. Bart obtains his material by observing Homer and taking notes of things he says and does. Angry Dad's defining trait is getting angry at the situations he ends up in as a result of the stupid things he does, with his anger generally being way out of proportion to the significance of the situation at hand.[1]
In strips where Angry Dad is depicted as a child, he is called Angry Kid.[2]
History
Bart created the Angry Dad character using Homer's real-life behavior for inspiration. The Angry Dad comics proved to be a huge hit among the kids at Springfield Elementary School, which led to Bart's being contacted by BetterThanTV.com, who were interested in adapting Angry Dad into an animated webcomic. Bart readily agreed and the webcomic was also very popular, but it was short-lived due to BetterThanTV.com going out of business.[1]
Bart chose Dan Castellaneta to provide the voice for Angry Dad because his voice sounded just like Homer's.[1] However, Castellaneta did not reprise the role when Angry Dad was made into a movie, due to losing his voice from shouting too much when he found out he wouldn't be getting paid. Therefore, Homer ended up voicing Angry Dad in the movie.[3]
