Pauline Esther "Popo" Phillips who wrote Dear Abby and her identical twin sister Esther Pauline "Eppie" Lederer who wrote Ask Ann Landers became embittered and estranged rivals over the dueling syndicated advice columns.

Phillips died in 2013, but because of her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease the Dear Abby column had been written since 2000 by her daughter Jeanne Phillips.
