Wink is a Japanese game show host, who has a game show called Happy Smile Super Challenge Family Wish Show, which the Simpsons compete on to get tickets back to Springfield.

History[edit]

One of the games in the game show included having the Simpson family whack Homer (dressed appropriately as a Pig Pinata) as a pinata, and only allowing him to be cut down if Homer answered correctly one question about Japan (which Homer ended up guessing "Japan" as being the answer without even hearing the question and actually getting it correct). Afterward, Wink told Homer that he had told the man offstage that he was going to place him in the lightning round (although his reaction indicated that he was actually cursing him off in Japanese). The lightning round consisted of placing Homer at the top of a radio station tower as a makeshift lightning rod to be shocked by electricity and to get the tickets from a burning liquid volcano. When Lisa got them from the rope, Wink thought outside the box too far because he wanted the viewers to see entertainment, so he pressed a button that ripped the bridge on top of the liquid volcano, causing Lisa to almost fall. After Homer taught Wink and the Japanese a lesson about game shows, Wink told the Japanese people that there was a "Canadian couple" who said they were very afraid of scorpions, and Wink put them in a box with scorpions dropping down while Wink laughed.[1]

He was later seen hosting a different game show with Suds McDuff (aka Santa's Little Helper).[2]

Behind the Laughter[edit]

The line that Wink shouts to the stagehands off screen after Homer guesses the answer correctly is "bakayarou! Dare ga kotau yattanda?" Which roughly translates to "You morons! Who came up with that answer?"

He appears on the back cover of the DVD "Around the World in 80 D'ohs" along with Shary Bobbins, Brazilian Yes Guy, Kitenge and Tony Blair.
