Alex is a young boy with glasses who competed in the Spellympics and won. He has a habit of pronouncing certain words with "r"'s and "w"'s, instead of "l"'s.

History

During the Spellympics, Alex correctly spelled "anthrax", much to the adoration of the audience. Once he moved up to the finals, the Spellympics host, George Plimpton, asked Lisa to throw the next round so Alex could win, as he was popular with the audience and it would boost the spelling bee's ratings. In the final round, Alex took his turn after Sun Moon lost and was asked to spell "rigged", which he correctly did. After Lisa revealed that Plimpton wanted her to throw the spelling bee, she misspelled "intransigence" by mistake, causing Alex to automatically win the Spellympics. As the Simpsons drove home, Alex was seen in a nearby car holding his trophy.
