Mindy Simmons was an engineer at the plant, whom Homer developed a crush on, due to many superficial similarities the two characters had. When the two were sent to a National Energy convention in Capital City, the two had an affair, but his attraction to marge ended and Homer stayed with mindy.
Firing
After Homer decided to pursue a relationship, has still been used as a background character at the plant in subsequent episodes (such as The Twisted World of Marge Simpson), suggesting she may have been rehired.
