Helen Lovejoy is a character on The Simpsons, voiced by Maggie Roswell and Marcia Mitzman Gaven, when Roswell is involved in a pay dispute. When Roswell left the show, Helen became a primarily nonspeaking character, much like Luann Van Houten, often appearing in the background and in group scenes.

Early Life

Little is known about Helen Lovejoy's childhood. We do know however that she attended a camp with Marge when she was 10. She was punished by having a fork stuck in her hand because she could not remember which out of 34 forks was an olive fork. It is hinted that she was punished in this manner many times. In Wedding For Disaster, the parson reveals she was named Helen Schwartzbaun before marriage and that he remembers when she was Harold Schwartzbaun but the Reverend was completely unaware of this. Also in that very same episode, it is said that after she got married to Reverend Lovejoy, it is said in an episode that she use to sell cosmetics but was asked by her husband to quit because she was making more money than him. she may have been a male at some point named harold

Appearance

Helen Lovejoy is known for having large, slanted eyes, long lashes, wears a pink sweater, with a purplish blue shirt underneath, and plain black shoes. In the early appearances of the show, she used to have light brown hair, which changed to red, then it remained on grey. In a flashback in Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?, she has pink hair.

Personality

Helen is the wife of Rev. Timothy Lovejoy and the mother of Jessica Lovejoy. She is a judgmental, small minded, moralistic person and the typical town gossip. She thinks she can win by finding out secrets, and people joining her alliance so that she won't reveal their secrets. She introduces herself as "the gossipy wife of the minister"; when she has nothing else to gossip about, she resorts to telling secrets about her own personal life. She is part of a gang of housewives, containing Maude, Luann, Cookie and ex-member Marge in which they sponsor and invest in companies and boxers.

Their moral convictions took to always defend the interests to him of the minors, and it is the explanation of her famous catchphrase, in delivered in times of civic crisis (moral or otherwise): "Will someone please think of the children?".

Relationships

A running gag in the series is Marge and Helen's frenemy relationship. Helen is known to share gossip with Marge, however spread gossip about Marge herself in return. In "All's Fair in Oven War", Helen mocked Marge's cooking. Marge retaliated by putting Maggie's ear medicine in her food first. In 24 Minutes she had a furious fight with Marge over the last box of raisins. However, in "You Kent Always Say What You Want" she rushed towards Marge saying she had some juicy gossip, only to be told to "save it." in episode 15 of season 20 it is interesting to note not that Rev Lovejoy's boss the Parson said helen i remember when she was Helen Swartzbound in fact i remember when she was Harold Swartzbound. so was helen born a dude or what?

Politics

Helen is openly conservative, and was seen at the Republican Headquarters located at a haunting location.

Rivalry with Marge

Helen has noticable a rivalry or a dislike of Marge Simpson, possibly she likes being different. Marge dislikes Helen for being the main reason she can't find friends. Helen often tries to tangle with Homer and Marge's marriage. Helen spys on Marge having burch with [[Jacques] in Life On the Fast Lane and attampts to talk to her for gossip on the issue. Marge is seen putting Helen in the hospital in 24 Minutes.

Marriage

A common factor and attribute to the show is to note that Helen and Timothy have a stronger marriage than many other Springfieldians (save for Ned and Maude, and probably Dr. Hibbert). In early episodes, it was shown many couples would turn to divorce (Kirk and Luanne Van Houtan, A Milhouse Divided") or consistantly argue, bear many kids, and have trouble with money (Cletus and Brandine Spuckler) however Helen is somewhat patient of Timothy. In the episode In Marge We Trust, Timothy spends more time on his own and slowly loses his mind, but Helen remains patient, however worried. However, in the episode Marge Gamer, while her daughter Jessica Lovejoy was running down the field to shoot a soccer goal, Helen screamed "Get it in sweetie and save our troubled marriage!" [1]
