Professor Varga is a professor.

History

When the Simpson family was forced to provide the entire city of Springfield with their Internet needs, Professor Frink asked Marge to send an email to Professor Varga. Frink told Marge that he would've sent it by regular mail, but there was no time. Frink wanted to warn Professor Varga that his atomic collider may cause a black hole as a result of the machine over-heating. Marge quickly drove Frink to the Springfield Science Center, where they found the professor and delivered the letter. Varga then ran off to take care of the problem. As Frink thanked Marge, he walked into his office which was just next door to Varga's office. When Marge asked Frink why he didn't just deliver the letter himself, Frink told her that he was shy.

Behind the Laughter

The collider over-heating and potentially causing a black hole is a reference to the concerns some people had during the construction of the Large Hadron Collider.
