After Odysseus was gone for many years at the Trojan War and then had his return delayed by Zeus, Penelope had several suitors in her house, seeking her hand in marriage. However, she rejected them all and chose to wait for Odysseus to return. When Odysseus came back and killed the suitors, Penelope asked him to spend some time with her, but Odysseus complained that she was smothering him and went to Moe's instead.
Behind the Laughter
- Penelope appears in the "D'oh, Brother Where Art Thou?" segment of "Tales from the Public Domain", a re-telling of the Odyssey in which Homer is cast as Odysseus, Marge as Penelope and Bart as Telemachus.
