FOX employees going through viewer-submitted video tapes discovered that there were plenty of funny clips with Homer, which gave them get an idea they presented to the executives. They wanted to film Homer around the clock and make him a star for a one-hour show. When the execs see some short clips of Homer, one of them says that the show can't rely on viewers to send in tapes of Homer and that they themselves will have to film him 24 hours a day.
