Willie Nelson and Doctor Hibbert have been close friends since college. Hibbert asked Willie to perform a "Phony Awards" show to reconcile the Simpsons. The Simpsons all accepted Willie's efforts on their behalf because they couldn't say no to him. Nelson has a comb machine in his house, which often jams when making a hairstyle for him[1].
Nelson's house was turned into Krusty's Clown College, as revealed by the billboard at the entrance that reads "Formerly Willie Nelson's house."[2]
