Alex is a young boy with glasses who competed in the Spellympics and won. He has a habit of pronouncing certain words with "r"'s and "w"'s, instead of "l"'s.
History[edit]
During the Spellympics, Alex correctly spelled "anthrax", much to the adoration of the audience. Once he moved up to the finals, the Spellympics host: George Plimpton asks Lisa to throw the next round so Alex can win, due to being popular with the audience, and to boost the ratings of the spelling bee. In the final round, Alex takes his turn after Sun Moon loses, and is asked to spell "rigged", which he correctly does. After Lisa reveals that Plimpton wanted her to throw the spelling bee, she misspells "intransigence" by mistake, causing Alex to automatically win the Spellympics. As the Simpsons drive home, Alex is seen in a nearby car holding his trophy.
