George H.W. Bush is a former president that appeared in the episodes "Rosebud", "Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington", and "Two Bad Neighbors" . In "Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington", he is shown during his presidency where he commended a sting operation that resulted in the arrest of Congressman Bob Roberts for corruption and bribery. He was later seen in "Rosebud" where he was attending the birthday party of Mr. Burns, only to be told himself and Jimmy Carter are not invited as they are one-termers. Bush the Elder did not have any speaking lines in "Rosebud". George H. Bush and his wife, Barbara moved to Springfield because they wanted to live somewhere where people do not care about politics and found out that Springfield had the lowest voter turnout. Although Bush gets along well with Ned Flanders, Bart is a nuisance. Bart's annoyances result in the destruction of Bush's memoirs, which an enraged Bush gives Bart a spanking as punishment. Upon learning of the spanking, Homer attempts different pranks to get back at Bush, resulting in a fight. The episode ended with a fistfight with Homer Simpson that starts in the sewer and ends up above the street. George apologized for spanking Bart in front of Mikhail Gorbechav despite explaining that he couldn't show weakness in front of the Russians. Immediately afterwards, he told Barbara that they were leaving the town. Barbara, who got along well with Marge Simpson, apologized for having to leave. Bush's house is soon bought by Gerald Ford, who instantly connects with Homer over their clumsiness, and love of football, beer, and nachos. He is also seen collecting an unemployment check when Marge gets fired from the reality agency she worked at in "Reality Bites.
He later reappeared in the episode Large Marge. George H.W. Bush is with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton trying to build a house for "Habitat for Humanity". In a manner similar to a typical Three Stooges moment, Jimmy Carter accidentally hits George H.W. Bush with a ladder. He proceeds to Carter threateningly while the latter apologizes for hitting him. He seemingly forgives Carter, but then he then places the hooks of his hammer into Carter's nostrils and says that he'll slaughter him and calls him a Pea Brain. After Bill Clinton laughs at him, George H.W. Bush asks him "What are you laughing at, Clinton?!" and proceeds to whack Bill Clinton on the forehead with his hammer.
Real life
In one moment during his presidency, Bush made a speech about family values and how the American family ought to be "more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons." In response, before the first rerun of Stark Raving Dad, the show made a clip of the Simpsons watching the clip on television, and Bart responding with, "Hey, we're like the Waltons. We're praying for an end to the depression, too."
