Disco Stu (Voiced by Hank Azaria) is a retro nerd stuck in the 70's who can be found dancing to The Bee Gees from time to time. He first appeared in the Season Seven episode Two Bad Neighbors buying Homer's old jacket that had the name "Disco Stu" on the back which was supposed to say, "Disco Stud". He can often be seen coming in from side screen and simply saying "Disco Stu!"

Biography

Disco "Stu" Stuart is a disco aficionado and is usually featured wearing a rhinestone-encrusted leisure suit. He often refers to himself in the third person (putting a big emphasis on "Stu" and then pausing before saying anything else) and is noted for being mentally stuck in the Disco Era. He is aware disco is dead, and he does not even like it anymore. He expresses worry that he has let disco define him as a person and fears becoming a "one note guy". In his younger years, he had a budding career as a sea captain, going by the name of "Nautical Stu" (and comically misleading the viewer that he is a young Sea Captain), and only finds the joy of disco music when Marge puts some on while taking his picture for his captain's license. He was originally voiced by Phil Hartman in the episode "Two Bad Neighbors", but when the animators needed to do a model change, Hartman was not available, so Hank Azaria took it over.

In the season sixteen episode "There's Something About Marrying", it is revealed that Disco Stu was Selma's fourth husband. However, he receives an annulment from Pope John Paul II; therefore revealing that he is of the Catholic faith. This episode aired just six weeks before John Paul II's death. In the episode "Springfield Up", it is shown he was going to become a captain "Nautical Stu" until Marge turned on some disco music during a photo session.

Disco Stu was originally a one-scene (indeed, one-line) joke character. At the Simpsons' yard sale in "Two Bad Neighbors" Homer is selling his old denim jacket, onto the back of which he had written 'DISCO STU' in rhinestones, originally intending to write 'DISCO STUD' until he ran out of them. Disco Stu and a friend look at the jacket, Stu's friend suggesting Stu buy it. Stu demurs, stating "Disco Stu does not advertise."

Hate of Disco?

He also according to one episode, Hates disco in general. 'It's just that I've been talking about disco for so long, that everyone thinks I'm a one note guy'
