Amy Tan is an American author.

History

Upon request of Lisa, the Simpsons went to a Festival of Books in which the discussion "The Future of Reading" was taking place. Amy Tan was along authors Tom Clancy and Maya Angelou at a panel answering questions to their fans. Lisa told Amy Tan that she loved The Joy Luck Club, mentioning that it showed her how the mother-daughter bond can triumph over adversity. Amy Tan embarrassingly replied that was not what she meant when she wrote the book and told Lisa to sit down.

Behind the Laughter

The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan's most famous novel and the interpretation Lisa gives is actually correct.
