Mr. Silas is a character in a tall tale by a singing railroad hobo.
History
After Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer left Missouri via the Mississippi River, they went over a waterfall and passed a photographer who takes pictures of people who travel past him. The photographer discovered that one of the photos he took had a woman flashing her privates, her ankle. Silas took the photo in order to keep it for himself.
