Mr. Monroe is the father of Sam Monroe.
History
When Lisa befriended Sam, she stayed for dinner and met Sam's parents. Mr. Monroe plays the piano and can sing, as he sung in a duet with his wife. At dinner, Mr. Monroe asked Lisa if she minded the rest of them eating meat in front of her as she's a vegetarian. Lisa told him that that was thoughtful and considerate. Mr. Monroe then revealed that they were moving soon because his research grant came through. He studied the harmful effects of relocation on children, which took him and his family all over the world. He then told Lisa that they would only know her parents through what she said right then.
Mr. Monroe took Lisa home where Lisa pretended that Ned Flanders was her father. Later, the Monroes revealed that they were not moving after all. Mr. Monroe's government grant was rescinded so they decided not to move. Lisa then lied to them, saying that her family were moving away. Cheryl then offered Lisa the chance to stay with them, which Lisa accepted. Lisa then went between both houses, lying to each family.
Eventually, Marge found out about Lisa's lies and made her invite the Monroes over for dinner. They came round on Saturday and the Simpsons were on the best behavior. Lisa then admitted to them that she lied about her family to impress them. They forgave Lisa then went up to Bart's bedroom to party.
