The Town Jubilation Committee is a group of Springfield citizens who are responsible for upholding the legacy of the town's founder, Jebediah Springfield. Their duties include organizing the town's bicentennial parade and appointing the town crier (although the hat and bell of said position are the property of Ned Flanders, who is not on the committee), as well as deciding how Jebediah's likeness is used in advertising (Long John Silver's once considered using him as their mascot). The members of the Jubilation Committee include several authority figures throughout the town: Mayor Quimby, Police Chief Wiggum, Reverend Lovejoy, Principal Skinner, and Julius Hibbert, M.D. Some of the members, however, do not take their positions seriously, such as Wiggum, who, when Jebediah Springfield had to be exhumed, played with his skull. The committee will go at great lengths to protect Springfield's legacy, even hiring sharpshooters, as was the case when Lisa Simpson tried to reveal that Springfield was really a murderous pirate at the town's bicentennial.
