The lactose intolerant boy is an unnamed boy who suffers from lactose intolerance.

History[edit]

Homer was selling ice cream treats out of his newly-tricked-out ice cream truck when he noticed a boy sitting on the curb, apart from the other children, with a sad expression on his face. Homer approached him and asked, "What's the matter, son? Don't you have enough money for ice cream?" The boy replied that he did, but he was lactose-intolerant.

Homer became angry and said, "Son, I will not stand for intolerance. You give this delightful frozen treat the same respect you would give any lactose-free food. God Bless America!" He forcefully held out an ice cream treat to the boy. The boy began to protest ("But my doctor says that..."), but Homer cut him off: "I said God Bless America!" Homer then again held the treat out to the boy, more forcefully.

The boy reluctantly accepted the treat from Homer and took a small bite. Almost immediately, a pained expression came over the boy's face, and he groaned and clutched his stomach. He held up his wrist to Homer, said, "Call the number on my bracelet!" and quickly collapsed, unconscious. Homer sarcastically said, "Oooohh! Someone has a bracelet! Who's your boyfriend?"

Homer lifted the boy's arm, looked closely at the bracelet, and read: "Uhhhh... Dr. Osterberg." At this, Homer realized that the boy really was lactose-intolerant. He ran away, leaving the boy lying on the sidewalk. The boy's fate after this incident was unknown.

Behind the Laughter[edit]

The boy is wearing a medical alert bracelet. They are often worn by people with chronic medical conditions (including allergies) so that they can be treated appropriately in the event that they have a medical emergency and are unable to communicate with respondents.
