Pops Freshenmeyer is an employee at Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. When Homer needs a sponsor for his bowling team, he asks Mr. Burns, whom is currently experiencing ether-induced hallucinations. Burns' visuals portray Homer as Poppin' Fresh, the Pillsbury mascot, so in his elevated mood he writes a check. Later on in the episode, Burns is alerted when he discovers he wrote a check out "To my pal, Poppin' Fresh". Smithers uses a computer to search the employee file in order to identify any possible impersonators and comes up with two results. First is Pops Freshenmeyer, who is said to have no resemblance and is ruled out. Second is Homer, and when the computer overlays his picture to that of Poppin' Fresh, the results indicate a "perfect match". ("Team Homer")
