When Ranger Todd did a puppet show about Sutter's Mill as part of Bart's class' study of the California Gold Rush, he talked about when James Marshall worked at the sawmill, owned by Mr. John Sutter, discoverd gold and decided to keep the discovery a secret. But quickly northern California was overrun by 300,000 people seeking their fortune.
