The unnamed carnival woman was the biological mother of Herbert Powell. When Abe Simpson visited the local carnival at Shelbyville (before marrying Mona Olsen), he met an very attractive female worker. She had a brief sexual relationship with him for his money. When the carnival travelled away from Shelbyville, she discovered that she was pregnant with Abe's child.
A year later, the carnival returned to Shelbyville, and Abe discovered that she had given birth to their son. Unmarried and ashamed, she and Abe took their infant son to the Shelbyville Orphanage, where he would later be adopted by the Edward Powell and his wife Mililani Osler. They named him Herbert Powell, who when on to be the founder of Powell Motors in Detroit, Michigan.
