Lucy McGillicuddy Ricardo Carmichael is a fictional television character played by Lucille Ball.
History[edit]
Marge was in hospital with a broken leg, and Lisa became exhausted from doing all the housework because Bart and Homer refused to help. Then, adding insult to injury, Bart and Homer watched I Love Lucy on TV with the volume turned up so loud that Lisa was unable to sleep. She tried to block the sound by putting her mattress against the door, but without success as she could still hear the dialogue from a scene where Ricky was slapping Lucy while Fred commented on it.
At this, the ghost of Lucy McGillicuddy Ricardo Carmichael appeared to Lisa in her bedroom and said she had come to help Lisa get revenge on Bart and Homer. Lucy's ghost said they needed "a scheme to teach those slobs a lesson". Lisa readily agreed and eagerly carried out the scheme, which turned out to be mixing oatmeal and green poster paint together and then putting splotches of the mixture on Bart and Homer while they were asleep, thus tricking them into thinking they had leprosy.
Behind the Laughter[edit]
Lucy's surnames are a pastiche of characters whom Lucille Ball portrayed: On I Love Lucy and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, McGillicuddy was Lucy's character's maiden name and Ricardo was her married name. Lucy's character's last name was Carmichael on The Lucy Show. After telling Lisa her name, Ghost Lucy says, "And I think there's some more", an indirect reference to Lucy Carter from Here's Lucy and Lucy Barker from Life with Lucy, Ball's other two sitcom characters.
Lucy's voice actress, Tress MacNeille, has previously portrayed Lucy Ricardo in the 1983 song "Ricky" by "Weird Al" Yankovic.
