When Mr. Burns asks Smithers what he did over the weekend, Smithers says that he "Caught up on his laundry [and] wrote a letter to his mother". She also, at the dismay of Smithers, requests him to visit La Maison Derrière.[2]
Smithers purchased earrings for her 81st birthday and instead gives the gift to Homer to sway a bet. However, he later gives the earrings to his mother.[1]
