The Penny-farthing bicycle man paid Homer a visit after Homer bad-mouthed penny-farthing bicycles on TV.

History

During the media frenzy that was spawned after Homer was accused of sexually harassing babysitter Ashley Grant, Lisa suggested that Homer tell his side of the story via a TV spot on public access television. Homer did so, first introducing himself and saying he had not sexually harassed Ashley. He then said that even though he had done some bad things in his life, harassing women was not one of them. As an example of a bad thing he had done, Homer told about a race that included a penny-farthing bicycle, which Homer described as "the stupid old tiny bicycle with the big wheel in front". Homer then said he said to himself, "We'll see about that!" and fetched a big chunk of cinder block. Homer didn't finish the story (due to Marge shushing him), but it seems likely that what followed was Homer throwing the cinder block into the spokes of the penny-farthing's large wheel.

After Homer's spot aired, Homer was at home when the doorbell rang. Homer answered the door and found a man on a penny-farthing bicycle outside. The man angrily said, "So you don't like the old-time bikes, huh?" He then kicked Homer in the face and rode away.

Behind the Laughter

The man at Homer's door is actually riding a penny-farthing tricycle, as his bike has one large front wheel and two small rear wheels. The most common design of the penny-farthing, however, had one large front wheel and only one small rear wheel.
