She is the well-meaning and patient wife of Homer. Her most notable physical feature is her blue hair, styled into an improbably high beehive. With few exceptions, Marge spends most of her time tending to housework, minding Maggie, being supportive of Lisa, and either disciplining Bart or defending him from Homer's rage. She was named after Margaret Groening, mother of Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons.
Family
Marge Simpson grew up with her sisters Patty and Selma in the Bouvier household. She met her hunka-hunka burnin' love, Homer J. Simpson, while they were in detention. She was in for burning a bra in a feminist protest, he was in for smoking in the bathroom. Even with the chaos, confusion and panic that raising three kids (and Homer) can cause, Marge is happiest at home. Homer may not be the brightest guy on the planet, or even the second brightest, but she's in love with him.
Hair
Marge has some serious hair. The big blue 'tower of power' on top of her head brings her to a Shaq-worthy eight feet tall. It was once mentioned, by Homer, that she actually dyes her hair blue, as she's been "gray as a mule since 17". It became her trademark style after she met Homer. She keeps a drawer full of hairspray to keep it in shape and she's had everything from cash to small, furry animals hidden in it.
In the episode "Helter Shelter" (Episode number 296), the Simpson family is placed on reality TV show where they have to live inside a house as if they lived in the year 1895 for six months. The only piece of 21st century technology (Marge hoping it was a melon baller) is a confession booth with a video camera to "express your deepest feelings and confess your darkest secrets" . Once presented to the room, Marge jumps into the room and slams the door shut and says to the camera "uh...my hair isn't really blue." She pauses, gasps, and then attacks the camera yelling "I need that tape!" No one knows what became of the tape.... When her hair is on fire, she has "two hours before it burns down to her head."
