Kent Brockman is Springfield's ace journalist. He does the daily reports for the News Hour on Channel 6, which the Simpson family usually tunes into. He is a devout reporter, and even after winning the state lottery jackpot of 140,000,000 dollars, instead of retiring he stayed on the air.
However, Brockman is not very good at reporting, albeit his various awards and acclaims. He often makes sarcastic comments and makes jokes of the people he's reporting on just for better ratings. He also seems to have moderate power within the Channel 6 hierarchy. He is very critical of his subordinates, particularly Arnie Pie, whom he shares a sort of friendly rivalry with. He also seems to have a sibling rivalry with his sister, who is a White House reporter for CNN.
Brockman has hosted many shows on Channel 6 and on Springfield television. He hosts Eye on Springfield, magazine-style news program Smartline, morning show AM Springfield and has also filled in for Channel 6 colleague Krusty the Clown.
It has been suggested Kent Brockman is very greedy, often betraying his so-called allies to join the winning team. In Deep Space Homer, when he thought ants would soon invade the Earth, he said, "One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves. ". Later, when the ants were revealed to be normal size, not gargantuan, he apologized and said he would always keep his allegiance to Earth in the future.
Brockman is critical of many other things, including democracy, media personelle, and people in general. He also owns a dog, and a Mercedes-Benz S420, which he is seen washing in the opening credits.
