The Mountain Man was one of the original residents of the Outlands who initially encountered the Simpson family after they were vanished from Springfield.

History

He encountered the Simpsons while they were driving away from Springfield at night. Bart needed to take a leak, so Homer stopped the car for him to do so. Unaware of who they were, he held Homer at gun point demanding him to "get back where you belong". After Marge explained that they were thrown out of their home and only looking to live out their lives in peace, he inmediatelly changed his demeanor, as he understood what it meant to be rejected by society, introducing the family to the Outlands stettlement aftewards.

While Homer was relieved and optimistic about finding a new home and proclaiming that "when God shuts a door, he opens a window", he promptly warned them not to leave their windows open 'cuz coyotes could take away their baby, scaring Maggie in the process.

Some time later, after the residents of Springfield slowly but surely started taking over the Outlands, he's seen outraged, stating that he wasn't comfortable living too close to medical care, inmediately leaving the settlement.[1]
