Character Information
|
Brunella Pommelhorst is a Physical Education or "gym class" teacher at Springfield Elementary School. She has blonde hair, almost always wears a whistle, and takes a tough-as-nails approach to teaching. Her name is very likely derived from the gymnastics apparatus the pommel horse.
Episode Appearances
Ms. Pommelhorst first appeared in "Moaning Lisa," but her name wasn't mentioned until "The PTA Disbands," when a girl called out to her in despair after being left clinging to gynmastics rings at the start of a teachers' strike. (Her full name is also printed in The Simpsons One Step Beyond Forever!: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family ...Continued Yet Again). In "Little Girl in the Big Ten", she decides that because of the oath she took on Xena, she has to fail Lisa, but decides to let her make it up by taking private lessons. In a more recent episode, "My Fair Laddy," Ms. Pommelhorst announced that she was taking a leave of absence to undergo gender reassignment surgery, and Principal Skinner said she would be returning as shop teacher Mr. Pommelhorst.
Ms. Pommelhorst is also seen sometimes in crowd shots, but rarely speaks.
