Mary Bailey is Springfield's state governor.

Biography

She ran against Mr. Burns in "Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish", winning in a landslide after Marge served Mr. Burns a three eyed fish, which he promptly spit out.

Appearance

Mary Bailey is an old woman with short blue hair. Strangely, her face looks similar to that of Bea Simmons from Old Money.

Governmental Position

From her appearances on the show, it is implied that she is a statist, and given Mr. Burns' membership in the Republican Party, Bailey is presumably a Democrat, although that has never been stated and she could also be independent of political parties. She was Mayor of Springfield before both Joe Quimby and his predecessor. Governor Bailey ordered an investigation about possible pollution by the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, although the investigation seemingly never concluded as attention shifted to Governor Bailey's reelection campaign.

Other Appearances

Mary Bailey would later appear briefly in the episode "Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade" when Bart and Lisa's class visit Capital City. They show Bailey their class projects (designing a new State flag). Mary Bailey yells in disgust after unfurling Lisa's flag, which Bart had redesigned to make it look like a butt with "Learn to Fart" underneath. Bailey appears again in "The Seven-Beer Snitch," where a prison is built out of a defunct concert hall. She brings order amongst the prisoners in jail, and pardons them. Her most recent appearance is in "All About Lisa", being present at the 38th Annual Springfield Media Awards. This, however, was a brief cameo.
