History[edit]
Homer met the worm man when he bought some bait at the store near Catfish Lake (Homer and Marge were attending a couples' retreat, but Homer had decided to get in some fishing on the sly.) While Homer was in the store, he overheard the legend of General Sherman. Homer then resolved to catch the fish, but gave it up after Marge caught him sneaking out to go fishing. However, Homer later caught General Sherman by accident. He actually got the fish into the boat, but let him go after he realized that Marge saw the fish as a symbol of his selfishness. After that, the worm man added Homer's encounter (colorfully exaggerated into a tall tale) to the legend of General Sherman.
