She was a "professor of domestic engineering", in other words, a cooking instructor. She taught Marge Bouvier when she was in high school. When Marge was a photographer at Springfield High, she took a picture of Mrs. Butterworthy as she was teaching a class. The lesson she was teaching was called "the extra ingredient is worry".
