The Simpsons: Tapped Out Clash of Clones content update is a content update that was released on August 19, 2014, under app version 4.10.2. It is a parody of the mobile game Clash of Clans.

The event lasts from August 19, 2014 until October 7, 2014, making this event the longest ever in the game, at 48 days. The event adds in three new buildings, castles, which the player has to defend from Nerds (other players' troops). The player can receive Elixir which is used to level up castles and Gold which is accumulated to collect exclusive, limited-time prizes, including costumes, premium decorations and two of the castles.

Event trailer

This event adds the 16-hour task added to the game with the previous update, "Play Clash of Castles", but was not able to be activated. A new strip of land was also added, along the bottom of Springfield, with prices exceeding Cash1 million for land for the first time.

Two content update related to the event have since been released, an update adding new decorations, and another offering a new costume.

The event has received mixed reviews from players, with some praising the event for its originality, creativity and friend interaction, and some criticizing the event for having almost nothing to do with the show at all.

Castle Levelling Up

File:TO Barbarian Castle Interface.png
The interface of the Barbarian Castle.

When the player taps on a castle, in this case the Barbarian Castle, they are presented with that interface. It tells them what level the Castle is currently on, and how much Elixir it will cost to level it up. It also shows the amount of nerds it generates per 2 hours. Upon levelling up, all castles display fireworks.

After a certain decoration for a castle is unlocked after levelling up, it is available in the store to buy for TO Elixir.pngElixir and DonutDonuts. (Prior to a small update on August 27, 2014, Walls, Towers and Gates for a castle would be available after the castle surpassed Level 10.)

The highest level a castle can be levelled up to is (ostensibly) Level 9,999.[1]

If the player taps the "turret" icon to the left, a summary of all the castles will be brought up, as well as how many Nerds, Exilir, Gold and Cheaters the player has. It also displays the levels of the Castles, and the player's defense rating.

Character Levelling Up

You can level up a castle's costume at their respective castles. The player must accumulate a certain amount of gold and if they have obtained that amount, they can level up their costumes. Gold is cumulative, so the player won't have to spend gold on levelling up. Whenever a costume is levelled up, the player gets more reward for their tasks.

Levels

The following is a table of how much Gold a player needs to level up a certain costume. For example, for Archer Lisa to level up to Level 6, the table tells us the player will need Gold.png5,400.

After Level 10, each level requires an additional Gold.png1,500 for Barbarian Homer, 2,500 for Archer Lisa, 3,500 for Goblin Bart, and 5,000 for Wizard Marge.

The highest level a costume can be levelled up to is (ostensibly) Level 9,999.

Attacking

The player can only attack five buildings in one town, and if in a friend's town, only five times daily.

Nerds

TO Nerd.png

Each of the three castles, Barbarian Castle, Boxingham Palace and Castle Recycle, generates nerds like a currency. The more nerds the player attacks with, the faster the player earns the reward. The fastest a player can destroy a castle is 4h; a house can be destroyed in 60m if the player uses the maximum amount of 9 nerds to attack. To defend the player's buildings against attacks, the player must tap the shield icon in their town. If a player's building is destroyed, they just tap it and it instantly rebuilds, with an elixir and gold reward.

Upon beginning the event, the maximum amount of Nerds a player can have is 40, which can be increased by levelling up castles, and the maximum amount of Nerds that can attack a building is 9, which can be increased with other town's defense ratings. Upon completion of "Prince and the Premise Pt. 2" the player automatically receives 10 Nerds.

Image Name Cost
TO COC Nerd Gang.png Gang of 5 Nerds Donut2
TO COC Nerd Mob.png Mob of 10 Nerds Donut3
TO COC Nerd Army.png Army of 20 Nerds Donut4

The player can either attack a random town, which they can do by pressing the icon in the top-right corner and pressing "Attack" on the next notification, or a friend's town through the normal means.

Here's the statistics:

Some of this information may be outdated, as some figures and amounts were changed with an in-game update on August 27, 2014.

Cheaters

Once the player collects 800 Gold they will unlock the ability to buy Cheaters; once the player collects 800 Gold they receive a Handful as a Personal Prize. Cheaters are how the player destroys a building immediately (instead of using nerds), can defend the player's buildings under attack (all at once) and can instantly repair all damage to the player's town. To clear a town, the player must tap the cheater shield icon at the top-right corner of their screen. To attack with a cheater, the player must choose the option to wreck immediately at the bottom of the building attack screen. When one defends, there is a 2% probability that a Single Cheaters 20 will be rewarded.

The player can purchase Cheaters for DonutDonuts, but only after receiving the quest "Rolling With It":

Defending

If the player defends their buildings by tapping the shield icon the player will earn the amount the attacker would have won if successful, doubled. Defending your buildings are only available upon the activation of the quest "Defend Your Honor". By levelling up a castle, the player can increase the defense rating of their town, which appears on the "Castle Summary" menu. The higher the rating is, the more nerds it takes for another player to complete their attack of the building concerned as quick.

Here's the statistics:

Attacking... Result Reward
Castle or House Win TO Elixir.png20, Gold.png10
Lose TO Elixir.png10, Gold.png5

If a player attacks another town, and the player whose town was attacked defends their buildings before the attacker's nerds complete the attack, the attacker receives the following amounts for friends and random invaders:

Building Reward
House TO Elixir.png5, Gold.png1
Castle TO Elixir.png10, Gold.png2

Whenever a player defends a building, a quote appears:

  • "[player name] made us do it"
  • "[player name] will have their revenge"
  • "[player name] will have his revenge"
  • "We die for the [player name] empire"

Whenever someone who attacks the player isn't one of their friends, "An Invader" will appear in place of a player name.

Repairing

A destroyed Barbarian Castle.

When a building is destroyed the "build" icon will hover above it, and once the player taps that, it will restore the building however reset the timer to give out rewards. A possible glitch is that whenever the player logs on next it is restored to where it would have been if the building wasn't destroyed. The player is rewarded with TO Elixir.png5 and Gold.png10.

A quote appears:

  • "[player name] sends his regards"
  • "[player name] hopes you like repairing"

Whenever someone who destroys a player's building(s) isn't one of their friends, "An Invader" will appear in place of a player name.

Other changes made

  • Superintendent Chalmers' 8-hour task to "Catch Some Dinnerrrr" and Judge Snyder's 24-hour task to "Take A 24 Hour Vacation" now require the Minnow Pond and will not be available if the Minnow Pond is already occupied.
  • The character group "KrustylandGoers" has been removed from characters descriptions.
  • Eddie and Lou no longer have 4-hour tasks in Krustyland to "Ride The Viking Boat".
  • The Rush Rate to claim the Capital City Goofball in the Friend Points level 8 has been cut in half.
  • Pokey the Guinea Pig (from "The War of Art" episode tie-in)'s animation will now appear when tapped in a friend's town.

Languages

  • Seven additional languages have been added to the language options. The list is now: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Turkish, and Thai.

Other Springfield

TO COC Other Springfield.png

Other Springfield changed with this update. All players have access to a Level 40 Other Springfield, which contains the event's features. All of the buildings available in the event have been built, as well as, presumably, all the decorations. All the costumes have also been unlocked in this town. The town also has a reduced number of buildings, and misses out some normal gameplay buildings randomly from various levels. A glitch is that upon their first visit to Other Springfield from the start of the event, the player could collect money, XP, Friend Points and Nerds from the buildings introduced in this update despite any waiting time remaining until the player could normally access and collect rewards.

August 21th update

  • Everything from this event in the build menu is now marked as "Limited Time".
  • Castle Recycle and Boxingham Palace now require "Eco Castle Pt. 1" and "Boxed In Pt. 1" to be unlocked from the inventory instead of "Prince and the Premise Pt. 9"
  • Both castles now give 10 points of Indolence each, they were marked as Obedience before. The Barbarian Castle still gives 10 points of Obedience.
  • Some castle decorations (unlocked through levelling up castles) now may be placed on the beach.
  • The Hot Air Balloon and Flaming Torch can now be placed on the boardwalk.
  • The tasks "Bulk Up" (Homer, 4h) and "Feast Until Belly Becomes Bloated" (Barbarian, 8h) can now use Krusty Burger franchise locations in addition to the original.
  • Similarly, the "Use Coupons to Buy Spell Components" task (Wizard Marge, 4h) can now use Kwik-E-Mart franchise locations for this task, in addition to the original.
  • The Barbarian starts the quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 5" rather than Homer.
  • The quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 14" now requires that the quest "Boxed In Pt. 1" be completed in addition to "Prince and The Premise Pt. 13".
  • The quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 21" now awards Donut2 and XP10 instead of TO Elixir.png100 and XP10.
  • Costumes for the event now appear in the character collection "Clash of Clones", which previously only contained the Barbarian.

August 27th update

Event-related

  • Icon on the bottom right of the screen was changed from the turret icon to the trophy jug icon. Tapping it takes the player to the Personal Prizes, where they can still access the Castle Summary by tapping the turret icon in the lower right corner.
  • The icon on the Elixir Bundle in the Personal Prizes screen was changed from the inaccurate 4000 Elixir to the 1000 Elixir icon, as the prize was truly TO Elixir.png1,000.
  • The Barbarian was added to the Regular Characters character group.
  • The Medieval Banners, Hay Cart, Stock, Flaming Torch, and Chicken Coop now appear in the build menu all the time, even if the player does not obtain the TO Elixir.pngElixir required to purchase the item. The Hot Air Balloon will not appear for purchase until Gold.png15,000 is accumulated, neither will the Catapult until Gold.png30,000 is accumulated.
  • Castle Walls are now enabled for purchase after the Barbarian Castle is level 4 and the Castle Tower when it is level 6. They required level 10 before. Also, to purchase the Cardboard Walls requires Boxingham Palace to be level 4 and the Tower requires it to be level 6 now. Recycled Walls require Castle Recycle to be level 4 and the Tower requires it to be level 6 now.
  • Castle Wall, Castle Tower, Castle Gates, Red Medieval Banner, Hay Cart, and Stock have Chain Placement enabled so they should line up when placing more than one.
  • Dewey Largo, Chester Dupree, and Chester Lampwick will earn at a premium rate for the task "Attend The Recital Under Threat of Death", which is used in the quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 11".
  • "Prince and The Premise Pts. 1-8" now require at least game level 6 to start. "Prince and the Premise Pts. 9-10" and "Clash of Clones" Pts. 1-4 require at least game level 7. Parts 11-13 require game level 9. Parts 14-17 and "The Power of Upgrades Pt. 1" require game level 12. "The Power of Upgrades" Pts. 2 and 3 and "Prince and The Premise Pts. 18-23" require game level 15.
  • Payouts on the completion of quest "Prince and the Premise Pt. 21" has changed again, from Donut2 and XP10 to Donut15 and XP10.
  • Code was added to purportedly fix the "Rolling With It" bug where using a cheater d20 to defend the player's town would not count for the quest to complete.
  • Completing the Clash of Clones character collection now awards Cash1,500 and XP30 instead of Cash250 and XP5.

Normal gameplay

  • Code was added to both the Spuckler child cash generation mechanism and the Krustyland visitor ticket generation to make the notifications clearer.

September 4th update

  • Fort Sensible, Box of Fireworks, Freak Show Tent, and Satan's Anvil return as premium limited-time items.
  • The Cannon was added to the Clash of Clones build menu.
  • A bug with dates was fixed, rewarding the nerd bonus from the glitched August 30 "Special Troop Saturday" when installing the update.
  • The Two-nicorn was added to the "Exotic Animals and Pets" character collection.
  • The amount needed to update castles beyond level 20 was changed. The old formula was 250 * (castle level + 1) * (castle level + 2). New formula is 25 * (castle level + 1) * (castle level + 2). Upgrading a level 20 castle under the old formula cost TO Elixir.png115,500, under the new it costs 11,550 Elixir.
  • In the task "Attend The Recital Under Threat Of Death" which is used by almost every character in the quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 11", both Rex Banner and George Washington will now earn at their premium rate.
  • A new temporary quest, "Attack Benefits", was added to explain how to attack with a maximum chance of succeeding.
  • The 4 hour job "Hide Unconscious Barbarian In Brown House" from the quest "Prince and The Premise Pt. 14" now pays the 4 hour TO Elixir.pngElixir rate rather than the 7 hour.
  • Satan's Anvil now earns XP5,000 when placed and gives 2000 Vanity points rather than XP0 and 10 Vanity points. It also costs Donut225.
  • The Freak Show Tent now gives 800 vanity points when it used to give 150.

September 9th update

  • The default payout for premium 6 hour buildings was adjusted from Cash175 and XP17 to Cash175 and XP18.
  • Fort Sensible now earns as a premium building (at the 6 hour adjusted rate).
  • Shary Bobbins was moved back from the More Oddballs character collection to Helpful Guest Stars, after she was moved in the Level 44 update.
  • The Freak Show Tent is no longer sellable.
  • Elixir is now only available to be bought for Donuts on weekends rather than Wednesdays. The first Elixir Weekend starts on September 12th, 19:00 GMT and expires September 15th 07:00 GMT.

October 2nd update

Shadow Knight Offer

On October 2, 2014, an offer to buy the Shadow Knight costume for Bart, as well as the Shadow Knight Throne decoration, was launched, like a Gil offer, for Donut200. The offer will end at the same time the Clash of Clones event ends on October 7, 2014. This offer requires Level 5 to be activated and is found in both the "Clash of Clones" and "Decorations" menus. It also activated a questline.

NPCs available in the store

At 8am GMT on October 3, 2014, the Nerd NPCs were made available in the store (in both the "Clash of Clones" and "Decorations" menus), and it requires Level 6 to be able to purchase them.

Special Currency Additions

Free Donuts

Around 3:30am GMT on August 21, 2014, a push notification was sent out: "Who says winter should get all the wars? Nobody. That's why these Springfield battles are a summertime affair. Play now and earn 15 FREE donuts!". However, when players logged on, there were no donuts added to the total or no notification to accept them. At 12:06pm on the same day, the notification was sent out again, but still there were no extra donuts. At approximately 8pm GMT that day, a notification was sent out reading "Thanks for joining the Clash of Clones! There's a little bonus waiting in your Springfield." And at last, the player received the free Donut15.

Special Troop Saturdays

File:TO COC Reinforcements.png
The notice that appeared upon entering Springfield.

It was reported on Reddit on August 22, 2014 that there would be "something that's going to happen each Saturday at 6:01pm", and that "Your nerds will be refilled up to the max".

On August 23, 2014, the game's Facebook page released this:

Are you raiding without all your troops again? They should wear sweaters - it’s cold outside. Your mom will backseat play for you unless you use all your troops to take advantage of the special troop replenishment every Saturday during the event!

At 6:01pm GMT on August 23, 2014, a push notification was sent out: "A new wave of suicidal nerds has entered Springfield. You now have a full army!", marking the first "Special Troop Saturday", when all players have nerds added the maximum allowed. Upon entering Springfield, the players are greeted with a notice (pictured right).

Players can change the maximum capacity of nerds by levelling up the three castles. (See Castle Levelling Up).

The following Saturday, August 30, 2014, saw the majority of players not receiving any extra nerds whatsoever, with EA Customer Service commenting that they were aware of the issue. Due to a glitch concerning the dates for the August 30 "Special Troop Saturday," following an in-game update on September 4, 2014, the player's nerds were increased to the maximum.

The September 6 and 13 "Special Troop Saturday" occurred normally without glitches.

Teasers

The first knowledge of the update was released on August 18, 2014, when a picture of the Barbarian was released on Facebook, along with a description:

Has Homer devolved? Or is this just an elaborate ruse by EA to re-popularize the unibrow (or, as they call it, the mustache of the forehead)? Stay tuned and play Tapped Out this week to find out what’s going on!

The same day, on EA's Instagram account, a picture of Bart and Lisa's costumes was released, along with the description:

War is coming to Springfield! Ready your sword and shield! Your bow and quiver! Your wizard hat and inhaler! Coming this week, The Simpsons: Tapped Out gets a new update!

Other notifications

  • At around 6:10am GMT on September 6, 2014, a notification was sent out: "The nerd horde has unlocked a treasure trove of items now available in the build menu! Check out their bounty or they'll unlock their nerd rage!" to promote the September 4 in-game content update that brought new event-related items.
  • Frequently a notification is sent out reading "Your army awaits! Invade other Springfields to earn more Elixir and Gold!". It is unknown what this means, but could be a notification to announce a certain castle has now finished "Training Nerds".
  • At around 3:04am GMT on October 4, 2014, a notification was sent out: "Shadow Knight has arrived in Springfield! A game within a game? It's like an MC Escher painting! Donuts are basically lazy Mobius Strips anyway." to promote the Shadow Knight costume/decoration combo offer. This notification was later sent out the same day at 11:04am GMT.
