The Simpsons: Tapped Out Land Expansions

In The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Land Expansion is a field of land, 16x16 squares, where players can place buildings, decorations, roads, pavement, rivers and monorail tracks on. Many expansions also contains debris and on three rare occasions a free premium Burning Bush. The player starts in a free space of 4 properties (32x32). Land can be bought using Cash.

On certain, rare occasions, mostly at the beginning of events, EA adds one or more rows or columns of land.

One of the biggest change was the addition of Squidport, expanding the land onto the ocean with 42 new plots, adding the Boardwalk Sections to place items on.

Krustyland was then introduced, introducing a whole new map with a much smaller area to work with, with the cash being replaced by Krustyland Tickets.

Springfield and Springfield Heights

The further away one goes from the starting plot, the more the expansions costs, with vertical costing more than horizontal spaces. The cost of plots (usually) don't change over time, the increase caused by the distance from the original plot.

The biggest release of land since the launch of the game was with the Destination Springfield event, releasing two columns, one row and one ocean row, for a total of 100 plots. The second biggest release of land in one update occurred on the release of the Springfield Heights expansion, releasing 6 rows and 9 columns over the mountains, in a whole new section, still usable by Springfield items.

During the latest big events, a prize called Free Land Token could be won. The user can use it when unlocking a plot of land to unlock it for free. If all land was bought before unlocking the prize, it'll stay in the inventory till new land is added.

During the Bart Royale event, 2 rows were added with all squares requiring Free Land Tokens to unlock. During Itchy & Scratchy Land event, 7 columns were added, once again all requiring Free Land Tokens to unlock. During Moe's Ark and Treehouse of Horror XXIX, 9 land blocks each were unlocked by placing the main item of the event. During A Bart Future, 26 new rows were added with all squares costing 1,000,000.

During Northward Bound, a new collectible called Land Deed can be obtained and unlocks the new land in Springfield Heights that now expand to the same length of Springfield.

The expansions in Krustyland worked in a similar way, with the exception of using tickets to buy them. When Krustyland is blown up in the Itchy & Scratchy Land event, the area becomes inaccessible.
