The Canyonero is the trademark Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in The Simpsons.  It was endorsed by Krusty the Clown when it first appeared in "The Last Temptation of Krust.  It is a large, red SUV and was introduced just as the SUV craze began to hit the United States.  The design is basically a parody of the large SUV and the style of "I own an SUV, therefore, I own the road" driving.  The theme song helps to demonstrate this. Homer buys a red Canyonero in Marge Simpson in: "Screaming Yellow Honkers", realising he bought the F-series. He refuses to drive it, not wanting to be seen as a homosexual, and Marge takes over the car, falling into a state of road rage. It looks like a Ford Expedition (1997-2002) or Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE (2003-Present). It has space for up to a record-breaking 35 passengers.

The Canyonero is a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

Description[edit]

The Canyonero is said to have space for over thirty passengers as well as the driver. Its specifications are described as approximately thirty-six feet in length, weighing sixty-five tons, and wide enough to fill two highway lanes. The Canyonero comes equipped with four-wheel drive and is decidedly designed more for power than for speed, as the Canyonero says it "goes real slow with the hammer down". The Canyonero is prone to on-board fires of indeterminate cause which have spawned a number of cases that are working their way through the court system.[1]

The Federal Highway Commission has ruled the Canyonero unsafe for both highway and city driving.[1]

The Canyonero comes in both gasoline-powered and hybrid models.[2]

Owners[edit]

Krusty the Clown owns a Canyonero, which he received in exchange for endorsing the vehicle. When the Canyonero execs first made Krusty the offer, he refused, but he later caved in after taking a test drive.[1]

Homer bought a red Canyonero. However, he soon realized that he had mistakenly bought the F-series for women. After that, he refused to drive it, not wanting to be seen as a homosexual.[3]

After Homer quit driving the Canyonero he had bought, Marge assumed possession of it and started driving it. She found that it brought out her aggressive tendencies, to the point of road rage.[3]

Ned Flanders also owns an orange Canyonero, which he used to take a group of Junior Campers to the Junior Camper Snow Sled Jamboree.[4]

Behind the Laughter[edit]

 • The Canyonero's design is a parody of large SUVs and the "I own an SUV, therefore, I own the road" style of driving (The Canyonero helps to demonstrate this). The Canyonero was introduced just as the SUV craze began to hit the United States.
 • The Canyonero resembles both a Jeep Grand Wagoneer (1963–1991) and a Classic Land Rover Range Rover (1970–1996).
 • It's claimed to be "12 yards long, 2 lanes wide, 65 tons of American pride", with the length being equal to that of an average city bus and the weight and width exceeding that of most tanks. It's described by Bart and Krusty as being "quite roomy" despite being able to seat 35.
