Bart the Unconscionable Menace is a The Simpsons Comic Strips story.

Synopsis[edit]

Bart keeps pestering Ned with questions about religion.

Plot[edit]

Bart asks Ned Flanders if God could create a rock that even He couldn't lift. Ned tells Bart that He couldn't because God has the power to do all things possible. A few minutes later, Bart asks Ned if there was a God before creation. Ned tells Bart about early Christians having a concept called "demiurge" and begins to explain it. A minute later, Bart asks how there can only be one God when He's also part of a trinity. Ned tells Bart that you shouldn't add the members of the trinity and should multiply them instead, so one times one equals one. Another minute later, Ned is trying to relax in his hammock when Bart asks him how the Bible can say "an eye for an eye" as well as "turn the other cheek." Ned becomes annoyed at Bart's constant questions but tells him that one phrase refers to proper punishment for the crime while the other refers to mercy. Bart then goes to Reverend Lovejoy and tells him that Ned seems to be starting to get peeved. The Reverend is taking notes and tells Bart that he'll give him five more dollars to test Ned's "turn the other cheek" theory.
