Dollars to Donuts is a The Simpsons Comic Strips story that was first published in 1998.

Plot[edit]
Mr. Burns tries cutting back spending by ordering a "peasant" meal from Gulp 'N' Blow, but he doesn't like it. He asks Smithers if there are any other ways he could cut back on spending. Smithers lists all the money and assets Burns has, which leads Burns to think that he's actually broke. Smithers then suggests that they could cut employee wages to save 25 million dollars per year. Burns wants to not pay his employees anything, but Smithers tells him that there'll be legal problems if he does that. Smithers tells Burns that if the workers are happy, they'd be willing to work for less money. Smithers gets the suggestion box to see what the employees want and finds that there are many requests for more donuts, which outnumber requests for health benefits five to one. Soon, the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant has an Employee Appreciation Day with free donuts all day if employees accept a pay cut. Homer quickly starts gorging himself on donuts as Lenny and Carl watch, with Lenny shocked that Homer gave up forty dollars a week, but Carl saying that with the amount of donuts Homer ate, it was like a pay raise for him.
