On Halloween, the kids come back from Trick-or-Treating with a massive haul of sweets. [[Marge]], as the Switch Witch, switched their sweets with vegetables and tells Homer to take the sweets to a drop off facility to send them to American soldiers. Homer goes against this and goes to Candy Eating Peak to eat them, when he falls into a canyon and gets pinned by a boulder, with the bag of sweets just out of reach. After calling 911, he decides 20 minutes is too long to wait without sweets and decides to gnaw through his arm to get free. After gnawing through the other arm and a leg, he manages to free himself and open the bag, to find that it is full of vegetables instead with the kids stuffing their faces with sweets at home.

"Treehouse of Horror XXII" was written by [[Carolyn Omine]] and directed by [[Matthew Faughnan]]. The episode, as the title suggests, is the twenty-second installment in the annual [[Treehouse of Horror series]]. [[Aron Ralston]] guest starred as a 911 dispatcher and [[Jackie Mason]] reprised his role as [[Hyman Krustofsky]] in the episode. Following tradition, the cast and crew created their own 'scary names' for the credits - this involves altering the name somehow in a 'scary' fashion. Guest star Ralston came up with his own scary name for the credits, which was Aron "I gave my right arm to be on 'The Simpsons'" Ralstump.

The episode first aired on the Fox network on October 30, 2011, precisely one night before Halloween. Show-runner [[Al Jean]], when asked if he was satisfied with the air date, said "Yes, and the perfect thing is, Halloween is actually a bad day to air it, because nobody watches TV that night. Especially if they have kids. So October 30th, it is our Halloween. People can watch it and then still go out the next night." It was watched by 8.1 million people.
