The Smurfs is a Belgian comic franchise centered on a fictional colony of small, blue, humanoid creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo in 1958, wherein they were known as 'Les Schtroumpfs'. They were later adapted in a 1981-1989 animated TV series by Hanna-Barbera.

Les Schtroumphsons

In Simpsons Comics #131, parodies of Belgian comics are seen. The cover of the album Momolapalopi is obviously inspired by The Smurfs. The story Le Schtroumphsons borrows its title from the French-language name of The Smurfs (Les Schtroumpfs) and features a group of green Smurf-like midgets. In another scene, Mr. Burns is referred to as Gilgamel, the evil one, a reference to the Smurfs' nemesis Gargamel.
