Bob Newhart had a recurring guest role on The Big Bang Theory as Professor Proton, which he has reprised for Young Sheldon. He voiced himself in the Season 7 episode "Bart the Fink".
Professor Stephen Hawking guest-starred as himself in several episodes of The Big Bang Theory. He voiced himself in five episodes of The Simpsons, the first one being the Season 10 episode "They Saved Lisa's Brain".
Eric Kaplan, regular writer of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, wrote the Season 24 episode "The Saga of Carl".
Brian Posehn played recurring character Bert the geologist on The Big Bang Theory. He guest-starred in the Season 28 episode "A Father's Watch" as Dumlee and also co-wrote the comic story Gnaws.

Ed Begley, Jr. plays Dr. Linkletter, a colleague of Dr. Sturgis who flirts with Meemaw and whose physics class Sheldon attends while Dr. Sturgis is in hospital on Young Sheldon. He guest-starred as himself in the Season 10 episode "Homer to the Max" and the Season 20 episode "Gone Maggie Gone".
