The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a video game based on The Simpsons. It was released in 2003 by Vivendi Universal and was created by Radical Entertainment. The game is available for PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, and Windows personal computers.

Non-Playable Characters

(In Order of Appearance)

Gameplay

Hit & Run focuses primarily on driving missions. It employs the "sandbox" format, featuring a third-person view, an explorable environment, and drivable vehicles similar to the GTA series. While most cars can be hijacked or stolen, the non-playable characters' vehicles cannot be compromised in this way. Instead, the player's character can be seen riding in the passenger's seat of another vehicle while the owner drives. The game features a "Hit & Run meter" that brings the police after the player if it gets too high; if the player is captured by the police, (s)he is fined 50 coins. In the first 3 levels, only one police car is deployed to chase the player, but starting from level 4, two police cars are dispatched in pursuit.

Progressing though the various story levels allows the player to control Homer, Lisa, Marge, Bart, and Apu; many other Simpsons characters such as Chief Wiggum and Professor Frink appear in non-playable roles, but will also drive you in some missions.

In addition to the story missions, players can optionally participate in "bonus" missions or races which typically award unlockable cars for successful completion. Coins, the currency in the game, are acquired by hitting objects such as trees or mailboxes, destroying wasp cameras or Buzz Cola machines, or simple collection (many coins are simply scattered throughout each level). Players can use coins to purchase new vehicles or outfits for the current character; many of these can be traced directly to specific episodes of The Simpsons (e.g. Bart's Space Shuttle-shaped Honor Roller soapbox racer or Marge's police uniform). Many of the cars come from The Simpsons Road Rage.

A number of "collector cards" depicting objects, characters, or scenes from the series are placed in each level, usually in hard-to-access areas. Collecting all of these cards in a level unlocks a track that can be played in a slot car-like racing game, and collecting all of the cards in the game unlocks an original Itchy & Scratchy short, "500-Yard Gash".

Plot

On October 25, wasp-like cameras and vans are suddenly appearing in Springfield. One enters the Simpsons' residence at Evergreen Terrace. It disturbed Homer's nap, and he crushed it. When he woke up, he found levitating coins and saw a commercial for the "New and Improved" Buzz Cola, and decided to go to the Kwik E Mart.

Homer went to the convience store to get a bucket of ice cream with mini-pies and a can of Buzz Cola. Then he did a favor for Lisa by giving her science project

The next day, Bart attempts to get a copy of the Bonestorm 2 game, but he has to avoid Principal Skinner to get to the Try-N-Save, but he gets there, Jimbo reveals that he bought the last one in stock, and "some crazy lady" destroyed all the rest. Bart then decides to collect fireworks, but Chief Wiggum nearly caught him. So Bart went on his quest for Bonestorm 2 again, until when Professor Frink told him he would make a Trucksaurus by collecting a WWII radio, a satellite dish, and a blender. When Bart collects them all however, Professor Frink complains that there are too many cell phone users, and the interference would cause it go on a rampage and kill people in the ensuing destruction, and he claims that his insurance is too high to pay for all ready. Bart then destroys those cars and gets to see the Truckasaurus. After nearly getting crushed by it, he gets kidnapped by aliens.

The disappearance of Bart puzzled everyone, and on the 27th, Lisa decided to look for her brother. First, she went to Comic Book Guy for answers, but he wanted to retrieve a contriversal issue of the Itchy and Scratchy comics, so she helps him out. Next, Lisa went to Milhouse for clues, but he just wanted to ask her out for a dance, which she refused. Lisa then went to Apu, but he needed help destroying flatmeat that Cletus was delivering to the Krusty Brugers. Then Lisa was told by Grampa at the obsevatory that he saw Bart's lucky red hat fall out of a sedan, and with Otto's School bus, she wreaked it. She then went down to Mr. Burn's casino and assisted Chief Wiggum in taking down Snake with "three strikes", in exchange for information about Bart. He reported that he saw a lot of strange stuff around the docks. Lisa then asked the Captain about these supcious appearances, but to jog his memory, she had to deliver fish to restaurants. Instead of delivering them, she set them free. The Captain then told Lisa that Bart was in a limo, but when she destroyed it, he told her that he was actually aboard the C. Spanker.

Mistakes

Suburban level

  • There is a very big lack of road junctions.
  • In the game the trailer park is in Springfield's run down area but it is really over 100 miles away according to Homer, although this may be a foolish assumption on his part.
  • Another distance error: you can see the worlds largest toilet on top of a hill yet it is really on a flat plain many miles from Springfield.
  • The Stonecutters hidden tunnel is hardly hidden and is not next to the highway but links with the Power Plant instead.
  • Despite being in the 939 area of Springfield, in the game the Kwik-E-Mart is in the 636 area.
  • There is no sign of the farm house on the Tomacco field, also the power plant was right next to it when in the series Homer orders chemicals and the plant was miles away from the Tomacco fields.
  • 636 and 939 are switched.

Downtown level

  • Once again there is a lack of road junctions there are more than in the previous level but for a downtown area it still doesn't have many.
  • Oddly the Springfield Mall is no where to be seen in this level.
  • When you select Bart's clothes the stripes in the shirt are blue & white instead of red & blue.
  • The Matlock Expressway stays in Downtown, and does not appear to reach Evergreen Terrace at all.

Squidport level

  • The Android's Dungeon comic book store is on a corner but as shown many times in the show it is no where near a corner.
  • The only bridge out of town is no where near the Springfield Dam.
  • Kamp Krusty is far out of town.
  • The observatory and Springfield sign are close in the game yet the series shows they are on opposite sides of town to each other, also the Springfield sign is not anywhere near a bridge it is behind the power plant
  • The suicycle track was at Vegas not at Mr. Burns's casino.
  • Mr. Burns's casino was demolished in the series, but is intact in the game. (although, in theory, the game could take place before the casino was demolished)
  • The Bowl-A-Rama is not by a slope of any kind nor is Wall-E-Weasel's.
  • Yet another time there is a lack of road junctions.

(The vehicle Grampa is in, loaded with nuclear waste, is sucked into Kang and Kodos spaceship.)

Grampa: I smell toast! (the spaceship explodes and crashes into the school)

Homer: Eat nuclear death, you effacement, wrinkly space wods! Heh Heh, imagine that, scared of some harmless  nuclear waste. So very harmless. (a third arm appears on his back and scratches his behind) Ow! Cut your fingernails (he hits his third arm repeatedly, the door of the damaged ship opens revealing Kang and Kodos, their helmets are half shattered)

Kang: That fortune teller was right, I do end up dying in a spaceship crash.

(a newspaper shows up similar to the loading screen reading 'Foolish Earthlings' FINALE 1# Ratings Soar. Homer, Lisa and Marge are sitting on the couch)

Lisa: Dad, I'm really proud of you for rescuing us all from that alien invasion.

Homer: Did that really happen? I thought it was a bad dream after eating too many raw hot-dogs.

Marge: No, Homie, you're the town hero.

Homer: Sweet! And the ninja babysitters? Was that real or a hot-dog dream?

Lisa: Hot-dog dream.

(Bart comes in the living room)

Bart: Dad, your fans want you outside.

Homer: Fans?

(Homer opens the front door to find a crowd of rain-bow colored aliens)

Homer: Oh, those fans.

(He reaches down to get the newspaper when he hears the aliens cheering he then does some moves to show off. High above in the sky on a cloud are Kang and Kodos who now have a halo and wings)

Kang: At least our show was a success.

Kodos: Why did we go to earth heaven when we died?

Kang: Well, at least we don't have to sit through the stupid video game credits.

(Kodos points down as the Simpsons Hit and Run logo scrolls up)

Kang: Nooooo!
