Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a reference to the Super Happy Smile Time Family Wish Show, the Japanese game show from the season 10 episode "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo".
- Mr. Dirt is a parody of the King of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy.
- A cliché references Dungeons and Dragons, saying, "Nice. Steal from Dungeons and Dragons -- for only the millionth time!"
- The level contains several references to Pokémon through the game within a game, "Sparklemon", featuring elements such as the "Sparklemon Capturing Ball", a reference to Poké Balls.
- The statue of Santa's Little Helper is dressed like Amaterasu from Ōkami and has a Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts in its mouth.
- Mr. Sparkle talks to Homer and Lisa about the evil Rin Sha Corporation, probably a reference to the Shinra Company from Final Fantasy VII.
- The Comic Book Guy sumos make several references:
- One of the lines spoken by the fire sumos is, "It's only a flesh wound, just like Final Fantasy 9", referencing Final Fantasy IX, which is itself a reference to the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The line is presented with Comic Book Guy acknowledging that he is quoting Final Fantasy IX instead of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
- The fire sumos can say, "I have the power of Firestorm and the beauty of Starfire", both characters from DC Comics.
- They may also boast, "I burn like Cyndaquil!" Cyndaquil is one of the starter Pokémon in Pokémon Gold & Silver.
- Defeated fire sumos sometimes say, "Every light must fade, every heart must return to darkness", a line from Kingdom Hearts.
- The ice sumos can say, "Welcome to Hoth. And I am the Wampa", referencing Star Wars.
- Some ice sumos say, "Killing in a winter wonderland", a reference to the Christmas song "Winter Wonderland" by Felix Bernard and Richard Bernhard Smith.
- Some cloud sumos say, "By Miyazaki, I will destroy you", a reference to Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki.
- Occasionally, the sumos shout "TETSUO!", a reference to the anime film Akira.
- During the ice portion of the level, Homer may say, "I'm cold and you're ugly, but tomorrow, I'll be warm", paraphrasing a famous quote by Winston Churchill.
- Homer can say, "Would you tell Chuck Yeager how to fly a jet?" during the level.
- The Flying Boat has a figurehead resembling Hello Kitty.
