The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy written by English high fantasy author, J.R.R. Tolkien. The trilogy inspired what high fantasy is today. It is referenced several times on The Simpsons, as well as being parodied a lot.

Picture Season Episode number Episode name Reference
Treehouse of Horror XII Hobbit.png 13 270 "Treehouse of Horror XII" A Hobbit attends the Gypsy and Leprechaun's wedding, and is smoking.
Cleanie.png 14 309 "Dude, Where's My Ranch?" Cleanie appears and puts some dirty dishes in to a sack, cuddling them saying "Ahh, my precious", like Gollum. Even further, Andy Serkis, the portrayer of Gollum, voices Cleanie.
Rome-old and Juli-eh - LOTR montage.png 18 393 "Rome-old and Juli-eh" Bart and Lisa build a fort out of cardboard boxes. Later, Rafael comes to ask for the boxes back, but Bart and Lisa refuse, leading to Rafael threatening to come back with others, in a very cliché the Lord of the Rings voice. When Rafael comes back, he is accompanied by an army of delivery people. They them begin war, with The Fields of Pelennor playing as background music (a piece of music from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy). The battle is a parody of the Battle of the Hornburg from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. As well as a delivery man riding a fell beast (much like a Nazgûl), several remarks are made, mirroring ones made in the film trilogy.
Shadow Knight.png 395 "Marge Gamer" Bart's character in Earthland Realms, the Shadow Knight, acts similar to a Nazgûl.
19 411 "That '90s Show" Comic Book Guy is heard saying "And that is why The Lord of the Rings is unfilmable".
21 447 "Pranks and Greens" Homer says "You found the precious!", referencing Gollum.
Living tree.png 23 495 "Holidays of Future Passed" The living tree that holds Bart's treehouse resembles an Ent.
The Simpsons Game In the level NeverQuest, Mobbits appear, a parody, in both name and appearance, of Hobbits. Also, after Homer receives the keycard, he says "My precious", again referencing Gollum.
The Marge Book One of the movies listed in "Marge Simpson's Sisterhood of DVDs" is the romance film, Lord of the Engagement Rings.
Flanders' Book of Faith Among Ned's non-offensive DVD shelf is a film titled Lord of the Rings and Everything Else.
