5F is the tenth production season of The Simpsons. Mike Scully served as the showrunner for most of the season, while David Mirkin served as the showrunner for 5F23 and 5F24. The episodes mostly aired in broadcast season 9 on Fox, with four rollover episodes from the production season airing in broadcast season 10. The episodes aired from October 26, 1997 with "Treehouse of Horror VIII", to November 8, 1998 with "When You Dish Upon a Star".

In the eighth annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode, Homer discovers he is the last man left alive after a neutron bomb destroys Springfield in "The HΩmega Man". In "Fly vs. Fly", Homer buys a transporter that Bart uses to switch bodies with a housefly, and in "Easy-Bake Coven" Marge is accused of witchcraft in a Puritan rendition of 1649 Springfield.

Springfield's youth join a pee-wee football team. With Ned Flanders at the helm and Nelson at quarterback, the team is undefeated until Homer strong-arms himself into Ned's job and puts all his faith in underqualified Bart as his quarterback.
