The Hunger Games is a sci-fi/dystopian media franchise consisting of three young adult novels and a film series based on the novels. The story takes place in a future setting where a totalitarian government forces young people to participate in an annual gladiatorial-style competition to the death.

The novels were written by American author Suzanne Collins and appeared in 2008, 2009 and 2010. They tell the story from the point of view of protagonist and main character Katniss Everdeen, portrayed in the films by Jennifer Lawrence. The film series consists of four movies (the third novel was adapted into two movies), with one coming out each year from 2012 to 2015.
